If you are interested in creating English crosswords,we have created a new group, called “ENGLISH“.

Rules are slightly complicated.

1.Should place one Dark cell after each Answer. (or Answer should end at table boundary)
2. size should be like 13×13, 15×15 (odd numbers ; same width and height)
3. Symmetry is desirable.
4. Backward and Upwards Directions are not allowed.

How to Create a English Crossword.
1. login to the site
2. Click on “Group ” (myaccount)
3. Click on “Home Page” of Group ENGLISH. (Left Bottom)
4. Click on “Create Crossword” (Just below Logo)

    Is it possible to make the option as 13-17 for English Crosswords..

    I made a crossword in 17X17 and it is not accepting…..

        എല്ലാവരോടുമായി അറിവിലേക്ക് ഒരു കാര്യം സൂചിപ്പിക്കാം.

        മലയാളം പദപ്രശ്നം നിറുത്തുവാന്‍ തന്നെ കാരണം കമന്റു പേജില്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ അനുവദിച്ചു തന്ന സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യമാണ്.
        കൊന്നു കൊലവിളിച്ചു കൊടുത്തു. അവര്‍ അവരുടെ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് കളി തുടരേണ്ട എന്ന് നിശ്ചയിച്ചു. ശുഭം !

        പരോക്ഷമായി അത് മഷിതണ്ടിനെ സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവരെയും ബാധിക്കും. മഷിത്തണ്ടിന്റെ രണ്ടു ഡ്രീം പ്രോജെകുകള്‍ ലോന്ജ് ചെയ്യുവാന്‍ മടിക്കുന്നത് തന്നെ സെര്‍വര്‍ ചിലവുകള്‍ ഓര്‍ത്താണ്.

        ഈ ശ്രമം മാതൃഭൂമിയുമായുള്ള അവസാനത്തെതാകുവാന്‍ സാധ്യതുണ്ട്. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് കമന്റു പേജു തന്നെ എടുത്തു കളഞ്ഞത്.
        നിങ്ങളുടെ അറിവിലേക്കായി പറഞ്ഞു എന്ന് മാത്രം. മഷിത്തണ്ടിന്റെ ഭാവിയും ഈ മത്സരത്തില്‍ തൂങ്ങിയാടുന്നുണ്ട്.

        പറ്റുമെങ്കില്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ പേരെ ഇതില്‍ കൊണ്ട് വരിക. മഷിതണ്ടിനെ വിമര്‍ശിക്കാനുള്ള സാതന്ത്ര്യം അതിന്റെ വ്യക്തികള്‍ നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ അനുവദിച്ചു തന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. ദയവു ചെയ്തു മാതൃഭൂമിയെ ഇതിന്റെ പേരില്‍ വിമര്‍ശിക്കരുത്. അവര്‍ ചെയ്ത കുറ്റം മഷിതണ്ടുമായി സഹകരിക്കാന്‍ ശ്രമിച്ചു നോക്കി എന്ന് മാത്രമാണ്. സമയം കൊടുക്കൂ, അവര്‍ അതില്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ താത്പര്യം കാണിക്കും. Trail run ആരും സ്വന്തം ഇഷ്ടത്തോടെ ആയിരിക്കുകയില്ല ചെയ്യുക. വിജയമാണെന്ന് കണ്ടാല്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ ഫണ്ടും വ്യക്തികളെയും അവര്‍ assign ചെയ്യും.

        അത് മനസിലാക്കി കൊണ്ട് പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കണം എന്ന് വിനീതമായി അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥിക്കുന്നു.

          I had checked their crossword. they didn’t followed some rules strictly. a few are good crosswords, but not all. do not compare our standards with theirs.

          we took 2 year/ 200 crosswords to reach this level. and we discuss/correct a lot to reach todays level. they don’t know about all these. so please control your emotion.

          And did you notice one thing at practice crossword ?
          trail and error wont work initially. but it will work after you reach score 80.

    ഈ technique വളരെ നല്ലതാണ്.. പക്ഷേ 80-ല്‍ എത്താന്‍ ഒടുക്കത്തെ ക്ഷമ വേണം.. :) പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് മലയാളത്തില്‍ സ്കോറ് കണ്ട് ശീലിച്ചവര്‍ക്ക്…

    മലയാളത്തില്‍ trial and error നടത്താന്‍ അത്ര എളുപ്പമല്ല… പക്ഷേ english-ല്‍ അങ്ങനെയല്ല.. മലയാളത്തില്‍ നിര്‍മ്മാതാക്കള്‍ തന്നെ ആവശ്യത്തിലധികം പ്രശ്നങ്ങളുണ്ടാക്കാറുണ്ടല്ലോ പിന്നെന്തിനാ ചേച്ചീ ഇങ്ങനൊരു നിയമം കൂടി… :)

    മുഴുവനും പൂരിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയുമെന്ന് യാതൊരു പ്രതീക്ഷയും കൂടാതെയാണ് ചെയ്യാന്‍ വന്നത്. രാവിലെമുതല്‍ നല്ല തലവേദനയും. ( രണ്ട് പ്രാവശ്യമായി) നാലു പനഡോളിന്റെ ബലത്തിലാണ് തുടങ്ങിയത്. ഇടയ്ക്ക് ഒന്നര മണിക്കൂറോളം വിട്ടുനില്‍ക്കേണ്ടിയുംവന്നു. എന്നിട്ടും പത്താമത്തെ റാങ്ക്. കൊള്ളാം തുടക്കം മോശമില്ല. അതിനാല്‍ തുടര്‍ന്നും കളിക്കാമെന്ന് വിചാരിക്കുന്നു. 80 മാര്‍ക്ക് വരെയേ പ്രശ്നമുള്ളൂ. :)

    ആദ്യത്തെ പദപ്രശ്നം വലിയ വിഷമമൊന്നുമില്ല. സാമ്പിളിനേക്കാള്‍ എളുപ്പമാണ്.( അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ കുറെക്കാലമായി ഇംഗ്ലീഷുമായി വലിയ സമ്പര്‍ക്കമൊന്നുമില്ലാതിരിക്കുന്ന എനിക്ക് എങ്ങനെ കിട്ടാന്‍?)

    ഗൂഗിളില്‍ തിരഞ്ഞുനോക്കാമായിരുന്നില്ലേ? ചെറിയ സഹായം കിട്ടും. വാക്ക് എഴുതി synonymsഎന്നു ചേര്‍ത്ത് സെര്‍ച്ച് ചെയ്താല്‍ ധാരാളം പര്യായങ്ങള്‍ കിട്ടും. പിന്നെ പദപ്രശ്നസഹായം തരുന്ന സൈറ്റുകളുമുണ്ട്. അവയെ ഒന്ന് പരിചയിച്ചുവരണം എന്നുമാത്രം. one across.com അത്തരത്തിലുള്ള ഒന്നാണ്. വലിയ പ്രയോജനം ഉണ്ടായില്ലെന്ന് മാത്രം. എന്തായാലും ശ്രമം നിര്‍ത്തേണ്ട. ഒരു പ്രാക്ടീസ് ആവുമല്ലോ. ഇനി വരുന്നവയ്ക്കുപകരിക്കും.

    Today around 40 players in the first 30 minutes . Better than the 10 in the last game.

    However, 60 in the first game was the best.

    I feel the timing is an issue. Saturday morning crossword attract less people.

    നല്ല വാക്കുകള്‍ക്ക് നന്ദി ജലജേച്ചി ….

    ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് പദപ്രശ്നത്തില്‍ ഇതു വരെ അങ്ങ് ക്ലച്ച് പിടിച്ചില്ല. രണ്ടെണ്ണത്തില്‍ കിട്ടിയത് മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ ചെയ്യാന്‍ താമസിച്ചതു കൊണ്ടാണ്. ഇതൊക്കെ അരമണിക്കൂര്‍ കൊണ്ട് ചെയ്യുന്നവരെ ഞാന്‍ സമ്മതിച്ചു കൊടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

    ജലജേച്ചിയുടെ വിജയത്തിന് തിളക്കം വളരെയുണ്ട്. അഭിനന്ദനങ്ങള്‍ !!

    ഈ പദപ്രശ്നം ആണ് ആദ്യം test dose ആയിത്തന്നത്. അന്നുമിന്നും എനിക്ക് രണ്ടാം സ്ഥാനം. ഇത് മുമ്പുവന്നതല്ലേ എന്ന് നോക്കാൻ പോയി സമയം കളഞ്ഞു. അത് delete ചെയ്തിരുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് കണ്ടെത്താനായുമില്ല. എന്തായാലും ആകെ ഓർമ്മയുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഉത്തരം house of god മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. ബാക്കിയെല്ലാം നാട്ടിൽപ്പോക്കിന്റെ അടിയിൽ പോയെന്നു തോന്നുന്നു.

    അന്ന് 15 പേർ പൂർത്തിയാക്കിയിരുന്നു.

    20D – Abdul Bashir’s comment was right. “an” was a typo. Should have double checked it

    36D – Again, Abdul is right. Was trying to go with a six letter word.It is true that adjectives cannot be plural. But inanes is sometime used as a noun in American english Please see the link

    8A – It cannot be infinity as eternity has a meaning of infinity as Jalaja”chechi” rightly pointed out. So , Something is meeting at eternity( or infinity ) and in this case it is lines.

    The clue could have been better written like – They may meet at eternity, geometrically

    34A – I accept that it was a bad clue – Should have mentioned atleast the subject – geography – in the clue
    Stalagmite and Stalactites are columns in caves- Stalagmite is formed from bottom upwards while stalactites are formed from top down. Hence the clue was bootom part of the column. Still, I accept that it was a bad clue.

    1A – Obvious answer for the clue would be language and that doesn’t match the word length. Malayalam as a word is a palindrome – it is spelled the same way from left to right as it is from right to left. By definition , A palindrome is a word, phrase, number, or other sequence of symbols or elements, whose meaning may be interpreted the same way in either forward or reverse direction. Some other examples would be the words – level, racecar etc.

    19A GPS systems are used as a navigational tool especially in in modern cars. In the past and sometimes now, maps are used to find directions and routes.

    37A This is IT terminolgy . This clue was slightly modified by the admin. Basically uptime is the length of time the computer was up. It is actually unix command also. You can say , it is time between two reboots of a system.

    19A – Global Positioning system actually uses satelite to determine your current position; but maps do not help you to identify your current location. That is why I feel that clue is misleading. Both maps and GPS can be used for finding routes, though. (I was thinking the answer should be something like Polar Star).

    37A – I agree if you use “Power recycle”. Only AIX uses the command ‘recycle’ it seems. (Please correct me if I am wrong). Most of the Unix and other derived OS use “uptime” instead. Computer reycle normally refers to the lifespan of that device.

    1a – Yes , the clue could have been better. But if you look at the clue – Malayalam for one – basically it is asking – what is Malayalam. So the answer immedaitely coming to mind would be – Malayalam is a language. But that ia 7 letter word and doesn’t fit the clue ( 10 letters) So have to think little out of box. Then if you concentrate on the won the word Malayalam itself – it is a word that is same – spelled backwards or forward – and hence it is a palindrome. A better clue could have been – Type of wordplay – Malayalam is an example.

    19a – I agree with your take on GPS. BUt th wwhole point of crosswords is to have fun and think about the not so obvious answers. My thinking was that newer car models have GPS installed in the dash and people use that for directions. Maps are helpful in the same way.

    37a Yes power cycle or time between computer reboots or Computer running time would have better clues. Uptime command in Solaris

    I agree with the comments above. I think the main issue is – even if the clues are difficult , if the cross connectivity is there, it would be very helpful. I found the bottom left quadrant very difficult and had to guess once I reached 40% completion

    21A – the clue is referring to Cadbury’s perk – eating it will perk you up.

    26 A – I was also thinking Honest, straight etc.

    14D I thought the answer for salt and water mix – was far fetched – in my opinion

    Saga of patience testing CW are continuing uninterruptedly…some how on God’s grace I completed it, but still clueless on the logic of may of the clues given…really wonder struck by seeing the answers of those clues !!! I hope the creator will be generous to explain those..all the bests to everyone trying it..

    Many of the answers are anagrams. So the answers are there in the clues itself. Still I am not able to complete it – waiting for 40%

    The creator tried to make the crossword like a typical malayalam CW, that created the confusion..for example the clue ‘counteract’, by seeing which we will search for the synonyms..but no where you will get the answer, so you have to think in the track of Malayalam CW clues..lack of sufficient links is another big drawback..15 letter word was having only three connections!!

    Some of them are anagrams and most of them are not, so you cannot use the same gauge. That’s the issue.

    Also links are very less (lesser than my crossword, more precisely ;-) ).

    Anagrams are the type of crosswords we see in news papers. However this is the first time we meet one in this competition. Thanks to Fab !!!!!

    I was trying to create one however I stopped that in the middle. Since creating such crosswords are not easy and also I am sure that they are not going to be popular.

    Anyway, I am continuing with the effort and probably will hit you soon. This time 40% (at least) link guaranteed. :-)

    Anagrams are easier :- Because the answer is there in the clue itself.

    Eg: “Riskless; but disturbed feasts” – The answer is “safest”. If the clue is only “riskless”, still you can reach the correct answer (if enough links available). If you know it is Anagram type, the answer can be found there itself – “feasts” – Rearrange the letters –
    f e a s t s.

    I think everybody googled with the whole clue (or parts of it) and hence got more confused.

    You need to just figure out which is the actual clue.

    Another example: “Sunlight used for acting vibrantly” – Here you need to search for “acting vibrantly”. And sunlight is the word you need look for the answer.

    As I previously said, crosswords are actually meant for brain excercise. They are called “word games”. Yes, we need patience and time.

    PS: I still beleve Fab created this crossword with full Anagram clues. At some time he changed something or removed some of the extra clues and that made the issue. He could not make extra clues also. In fact if we don’t need much links in Anagram crosswords.

    9 hour, 10%
    10 hour, you may check the answers with out any restriction.

    Jenish, creating simple english crosswords is very easy – what I feel. So additional 5 points looks not good. Even Malayalam crossword creators are not getting that much extra bonus points.

    However I prefer increasing 1 more extra point (105) from currnet 104.

    Also, the new scoring pattern may be a bit difficult for “direct clue” crosswords. I remember we can finish most such crosswords in 1 hour earlier (with 80% rule). Now this seems to be difficult since in 30 minutes somebody has to reach 95% and 1 hour has to reach 90% to reveal the cells.

    Can it be:

    -> For the first two hours 80% (flat)
    -> then 1% per every 6 minutes?

    Crossword creator – 105 points

    After 30 min – 90%
    After 60 min – 80%

    Then 1% after every 6min.

    And after 7 hours – 20%

    one person reach on 98 on 28th minutes. should he wait for one or two hour for getting 2 more cells?

    second person reaches on 98 only on 75th minutes and he might finish the crossword first as the first person already left the game (thinking to come back on 120th minute)

    this is why we come up with 1% on every 6 minutes.
    it really helps the first person to finish first. fare game, isn’t it!

    by this rule, anyone can finish the game in 10 hours.

    I do not get this – If it is 80% for the first two hours (or per the current rule) the cells will be revealed at any time. So where is that situation arise when somebody waiting at 98%? And the rest 1% per 6 minutes rule can start (as per the new suggestion) after 2 hours.

    Consider if somebody scored 80% in 30-45 minutes (it is very much possible in most of the direct clue crosswords) but he cannot see that ….

    by this rule , if someone reaches 85 on 28th minutes, can check the score immediately. (as per new rule , he has to wait 15×6 minutes to proceed.)

    For the first two hours the old rule of 80% should be applicable. There after 1% deduction per 6 minutes. i.e. after 2 hr 6 mins 79% like that as you suggested. That is the only difference.

    Today also I am not sure how many reached 80% well before120 minutes but waiting for revealing cells.

    If it is a relatively easy crossword, then there shouldn’t be any problem. The whole idea is to make life easy for the participants if the crossword is really hard and they don’t have to wait for days. I don’t think anybody is continuously spending 3-4 hours to solev the puzzle. People will tey for 1-2 hours and with the above setting if you get threefourths right in 2 hours you should be fine. Otherwise you can come back after couple of hours and almost 50% will be highlighted.

    1. The cells were revealing even from the beginning, but the scores were hidden
